Luxury care developer and operator The Care Home Group has completed the purchase of the former Millpond View care home in Hayle, Cornwall for an undisclosed sum.
The 32-bed home has stood vacant since 2013 when it was closed by its previous owners, with 18 residents relocated and the loss of 45 jobs. The Care Home Group is now developing plans to restore the Grade-II listed early Victorian property to its former glory and transform into a 5-star luxury care home with large en-suite studio rooms, spacious communal areas and landscaped gardens.
The original home is part of Hayle’s noted industrial heritage, being originally constructed for senior management of the grist mill serving the world-renowned Harvey & Co Foundry, builder of the world’s largest steam engines in the 19th Century. The property overlooks the site’s remaining millponds, which now form picturesque public gardens.
The new development will create 26 studios, with refurbishment work starting in autumn 2017, for completion in the spring of 2018. The new home will create a number of new care and support jobs in the town, with recruitment starting early in 2018.
The home will be operated by the Group’s CQC-registered care provider Caring Communities, which will also offer home care services to local Hayle and St Ives communities.
The Care Home Group is becoming increasingly renowned across the South West for its transformation of period buildings into stunning, boutique care facilities - offering the very best in comfort, dining and customer services, as well as outstanding levels of care.
With one operational home to date – Latimer Lodge residential care home in South Somerset – the Group will open its 2nd home, a specialist dementia facility, in September. A further four developments are currently underway in Somerset, the Isle of Wight and Cornwall.
Sean Murray, CEO of The Care Home Group comments on the Group’s latest acquisition:
“We are delighted to add this property to our growing portfolio. It is our first investment in Cornwall and will bring this once-impressive property back to its former glory, offering residents a luxurious care environment, in a much sought-after location, with the additional peace of mind of professional care, on hand, 24 hours a day.
We look forward to sharing our plans with the local community in the coming months - as well as recruiting new staff to work with us.’
The sale of Millpond View was managed by Christie & Co. Simon Harvey, Director of Christie & Co.’s South West Healthcare Team commented:
"We are delighted to have assisted The Care Home Group with another acquisition and wish them well with their exciting plans for the property. The sale of this building and the plans for its regeneration continue to show the growing diversity that exists within the care sector across the South West and further afield."
